Lead by Executive Council Member: Dr. Alexa Johnson
Dr. Armita Manafzadeh
Armita (she/her) is a PhD candidate at Brown University studying the paleontological reconstruction of joint mobility in extinct animals like dinosaurs. She is broadly interested in the evolution of joint form and function and develops new visualization/quantification methods for use in biplanar radiography. Armita contributes to the IWB Twitter as part of the social media team and hopes to help bridge the gap between human and comparative biomechanics. Outside of work, she enjoys playing music with symphony orchestras and trying to perfect her chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Dr. Fraje Watson
Fraje (she/her) is a Research Associate at Imperial College London, UK, in Prof. Anthony Bull's Blast Injury Biomechanics lab. She is working on the ADVANCE cohort study looking at musculoskeletal outcomes in injured and uninjured UK military veterans who served in Afghanistan. Fraje's PhD was on gait stability in children with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis using motion capture and wearable technology. Fraje is on the social media team, primarily helping run the IWB Twitter account, where she loves learning about different aspects of biomechanics and sharing the achievements of others. Outside of work she enjoys running with her Cocker Spaniel, sailing and baking.
Nikita Sharma
Nikita Sharma is a first year PhD student at Heidelberg University, Germany in the Optimization, Robotics and Biomechanics group. In her PhD she is working on biomechanical assessments of reactive responses to balance perturbations in older adults using wearable technology. Her aim is to contribute towards a future of individualized perturbation-based balance training to prevent falls in
elderly. Due to her academic endeavours, Nikita had the opportunity to live and explore Windsor (Ontario, Canada), Paris (France), Groningen (The Netherlands), Heidelberg (Germany) but she is from New Delhi, India. Nikita is an animal and nature lover and in her free time she likes to Exercise, play piano, cook, travel and dance. Also, she is fluent in Hindi and English and has a little knowledge of French and Dutch and is currently getting a hang of German. For Nikita creating inclusive and diverse working environment is important and she is supporting that by working for IWB to build a resource repository for the biomechanics community.
Katie Bradley
Katie works at C-Motion managing support, training, and software development. Her research interests include prosthetics, 3D fluoroscopic x-ray, and baseball biomechanics. She assists with the blog and resource repository teams at IWB in the hopes of supporting other women in the biomechanics community. When not working, Katie loves playing with her son and dog, and spending her time outdoors.
