Dr. Katie Knaus

AuraLea (she/her) is a Macquarie University PhD student currently undertaking research at the University of Pittsburgh Neuromuscular Research Lab. Her research focus is on biomechanics of musculoskeletal injury risk in athletic and tactical populations, and biomechanical sex dimorphism specifically. By generating sex-specific injury risk models, her goal is to highlight that female sex itself is not a risk factor of injury in an effort to maximize female inclusion in high-demand athletic and military positions. AuraLea also works as a CSCS coach for studies implementing strength and conditioning interventions at UPitt. She aims to make science and physical activity accessible - fostering empowering environments for marginalized folks in both the laboratory and the gym/outdoors. In her free time, AuraLea rock climbs, runs, falls often, lifts weights, bakes with fierce mediocrity, and pets strangers' dogs.
